Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri)

Identification: An attractive green colored bird with a long dark bluish green tail and a pink collar around the neck. The male has a black chin stripe joining the pink hind collar. The female has a pale green collar unlike that of the male. The juvenile nearly resembles the female. This parakeet is smaller than the Alexandrine Parakeet and also lacks the reddish maroon shoulder patch.

Size: 37-42 cms.

Habitat: Open woodlands, parks and gardens. It is equally at home in both towns and villages.

Nesting Season: Mostly February to April, though it may vary locally.

Distribution: Widespread resident in India; Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
