Identification: It’s a distinguished looking raptor; bright rusty red above with white head, neck and breast down to the abdomen. The sexes are usually alike. The juvenile is chocolate brown and is differentiated from the Black Kite and Egyptian vulture by the shape of its tail, which is rounded and not forked . The tail is rusty grey in color.
Size: 45 – 51 cms.
Habitat: It’s found near rivers, paddyfields and fishing villages and scavenges by picking up scraps and her age cast overboard ships.
Nesting Season: December to April
Distribution: Widespread resident and locally migratory. Partly found in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
